guidelines
FIRST AND FOREMOST, WE WANT TO KEEP THIS AS MUCH AS A SURPRISE FOR ZACK AS POSSIBLE! because of this, we ask that you refrain from talking about the zine on sites such as twitter and bluesky, since those tend to be where zack is most active. don't tell them about it! (and if you are somehow reading this right now zack, hi!)
this will be a digital zine, however! it is a goal of mine that we can create at least one physical copy to be sent to zack. there will be a set page size, but that is currently tbd.
there will be unlimited slots for the zine, however there will be an application and a limited joining period, mostly so that the link isn't floating around online.
artists and writers welcome! artists will be asked to do at least 1 page of artwork, but are welcome to do more (comics OK!). writers will have a maximum word limit of 5000 words, but may do multiple pieces.
artists may also be asked to do smaller drawings, mostly for the contributor lineup.
this zine will be rated pg-13. think - if it would plausibly be shown in the webcomic, then it's OK. this also means no swearing (gags where it's cut off are fine).
this is NOT a shipping zine. if you would like to include ship art in your piece, that is fine, but it should not be the main focus.
STRICTLY NO AI/NFTS/ETC. this will result in immediate removal from the zine
we will also turn away artists who draw incest, minor/adult, etc
i reserve the right to remove people from the zine within reason
these guidelines will be updated based on the results of the interest check.
faq
(to be updated)
does this zine allow artists in regardless of popularity and following? - yes! any and all artists/writers will be allowed to submit an application when the time comes. i suggest that you provide at least three examples of your best works in your application, but this will not determine whether you are allowed to participate or not. there are unlimited participant slots.
what about writers? what should they submit? - as with the artists, i will ask writers for three examples of what you believe to be your best writing work as well. ao3 works fine, or if you want to send in specific snippets of your work or unpublished stuff, google docs works fine as well!
do we have to submit previous zine works as our examples? what about a portfolio? - a portfolio and previous zine works are not necessary for your application examples! all we will need are links to the works, whether that's on social media or google drive. however, a portfolio is completely acceptable.
will collabs between writers and artists be allowed? what about multiple artists? - as long as all parties involved are okay with this, this is fine!
